We met with a new client who had been referred to CS Financial Solutions by one of his colleagues, with the view of providing him with an overall ‘health check’ on his finances. At 56, he had accumulated a range of investments and pensions but had not had a full review of his finances for some time.
Having not worked for the past twelve months, he was somewhat concerned about his prospects of being able to retire. His main focus had been a final salary pension that would not provide a full income until 65 due to early retirement factors.
Within the meeting, we explored how he had accumulated his funds, where they were currently invested and analysed how much income he needed and desired in his retirement. We assessed his attitude to risk, his capacity for loss and started the construction of his financial plan in the context of his, his wife’s and their joint assets and objectives.
Following the analysis of their present circumstances, we were able to plan a tax efficient income stream from his current investments, allowing him to take immediate retirement. Their long term investment strategy was mapped out and established, focussing on initially drawing on low interest holdings and maintaining an equity portfolio to ensure the longevity of their assets up to and beyond drawing on his final salary pension and their state pension provisions
Having built up various pension plans over her working life, our client had reached retirement and, seeking a guaranteed income for life, decided to proceed with the purchase of an annuity. Consolidating all of her plans into her existing workplace pension, she assumed that her existing providers ‘offer’ was her only option.
Having consulted with the CS Financial Solutions corporate adviser, who looked after her workplace pension scheme, she was referred to the ‘At Retirement’ desk.
We were able to establish that she was eligible for an ‘Enhanced Annuity’ due to a number of health issues that she was suffering from and that fact she was a smoker. Alongside this we were able to model her annuity options to suit the fact she wanted the income to increase over time and, should she predecease her husband, provide him with an income.
Using this data, we approached the open market to secure the highest level of income for our client, an increase of £640 per year compared to her existing provider
Following the announcement of a company takeover, employees who had built up shares in their company were faced with a forced sale of their stock. A total of 250 employees across the country were affected and presented with a short timetable before they had to sell their holdings.
Having established a full understanding of the circumstances, timescales and implications that the employees were faced with, we developed a project to support the shareholders with their decision process. Liaising with a range of professionals and specialists, we constructed a specific newsletter to develop a theme and provide information for the staff with articles covering financial advice, taxation, investment strategy, behavioural finance and legal matters.
Within the newsletters, shareholders were invited to attend one of four seminars conducted across the country where advisers presented on the themes discussed in their articles. The seminars were presented to those who could attend in person as well as other employees who ‘dialled’ in from more remote sites, giving them opportunities to question and discuss relevant topics with industry specialists. Following each seminar, financial planning and taxation clinics were held for individuals seeking more specific guidance, part funded by the employer.
Finally, each attendee of the clinic was provided with a bespoke financial planning report for their reference
